Volunteer

Join Our Board

A 3 year commitment, the Board generally meets the third Wednesday evening of the month for 9 months including committee and board retreat participation. We're looking for students, OU staff and faculty, local community members with a commitment to UCM's mission and possessing skills including fundraising and development, program and event planning, finance and investment, and more. We strive to have a diverse board and staff and people of color and other minority groups encouraged to apply! Contact Melissa if you're interested in board membership.

UCM is committed to providing students and community members with opportunities to volunteer and engage in service learning projects. Please see our calendar for details. These include:

  • Thursday Supper

Student and community volunteers work together to plan, prepare, set-up, serve, and wash dishes for this weekly, free meal program for low-income community members. Help serve a hot, nutritious meal—great for groups, residence hall activities, campus organizations, etc. Call now to reserve a spot for your group!

  • Saturday Lunch

Now offered every week, including summer and winter breaks! Inspired by Thursday Supper and the need for a free community meal on the weekend. Student and community volunteers work together to plan, prepare, set-up, serve, and wash dishes for this weekly, free meal program for low-income community members. Help serve a hot, nutritious meal—great for groups, residence hall activities, campus organizations, etc. Call now to reserve a spot for your group!

  • MLK Day of Service

An annual program in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's commitment to community in which students participate in a variety of service projects.

  • Special UCM Fundraising Dinners

Students help set up, prepare and serve food and clean up at fundraising dinners for UCM.

  • Saturday Work Trips in Local Community

Projects include flood plain cleanup, painting rural community centers, assisting with rehab of a local community resource center. See calendar.

  • Alternative Spring and Winter Break Trips for Ohio University Students

Past trips include delegations to examine political, economic and social issues in Nicaragua and Cuba and volunteer work trips to communities in New Orleans, Appalachia and along the US-Mexico border. See calendar and call or email for details.

  • Other Opportunities

We can also use volunteers to help with the following:

    • Groundskeeping and routine building maintenance
    • Bulk mailing prep (folding and labeling)
    • Fundraising and outreach events and activities
