WINTER 2010


FRIDAY FEBRUARY 5, 5 - 8PM
A DAY OF HOPE FOR HAITI
First United Methodist Church, 2 S. College St.
Everyone is welcome to join together for a simple meal with live music.  Feel free to stay the whole time or drop in for part of the evening. Please bring your checkbook and a dessert to share.  

Participants will have the opportunity to give to the charitable organization(s) of their choice.   We will be collecting money for a variety of well managed relief and development organizations doing good work on the ground in Haiti.   In addition to organizations related to specific faith traditions, donations will be taken up for the work of Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross, and UNICEF.

Music will include:

Between 5:30 and 6:30   
Music from Haitian composers performed by Steven Huang of the School of Music and Canes Nicholas, a graduate student in orchestral performance from Port au Prince, Haiti

Between 6:30 and 7:15    
Student musicians from Hillel, the Jewish community at Ohio University.

Between 7:15 and 8:00    
The Rebuilding Hope Dixieland Band

- WEEKLY INTERFAITH PEACE VIGIL
Every Tuesday, noon - 1:00pm, UCM
UCM is providing a weekly space for people to come together for one hour of silent reflection, prayer and meditation for peace. Come for part or all of the hour. Please note there will be no verbal or written communication allowed in this space. It's fine to come late and/or leave early. Enter and exit in respectful silence. There will be candles for individuals to light at the UCM interfaith altar.

- INTERFAITH IMPACT STUDENT GROUP
Weekly meetings Tuesdays, 7:30pm – 9:00pm at UCM
The purpose of UCM' new interfaith student group is to further the mission of UCM and to engage students in interfaith community, social justice education and activism, and community service. - LIVING THE QUESTIONS
Every Thursday, (starting Jan. 21), Baker 229, noon - 1:00pm
UCM partners with Good Shepherd Episcopal Church to lead this progressive Bible study - open to Christians and non-Christians, believers and skeptics.  Sessions will include 20 minute video clips followed by group discusion and conversations.  Free and open to everyone.  Contact Evan at ucmevan@frognet.net for more information.
